The Bachelor of Fine Arts degree program in Advertising Design at The Art Institute of Dallas is meant to bridge the gap between technology, art, marketing and business. Beginning with the fundamentals: design, color theory, typography, marketing and business practices as well as advertising, you’ll learn how to combine your artistic gifts with a solid background in design for business, marketing or advertising. Our industry-experienced, academically qualified faculty will provide you with a hands-on, creative and realistic education with an emphasis on both digital and manual design skills.
Graduates from the program will be prepared to hit the ground running in the advertising industry from the aspects of both advertising and graphic design. Your digital skills will include the ability to use the Adobe Creative Suite (Illustrator, PhotoShop, InDesign, etc.) as well as QuarkXpress and other industry standard software. As you enter your final quarter, you’ll see the culmination of all your hard work as you learn how to professionally assemble and present your portfolio - the most important tool you have to showcase your talents to prospective employers!
Mission:
The mission of the Bachelor of Fine Arts program in Advertising Design is to prepare students to work successfully in the area of advertising design, whether for marketing companies in their advertising departments or as design professionals in advertising agencies. The mission includes providing the students with a strong background in the variety of disciplines needed for success in developing advertising campaigns. The core skill of the program is advertising, which includes the creation of strong brand images.
The students are grounded in design theory and drawing, taught the use of current industry software, and are required to complete on-time finished pieces. In addition to this fundamental design skill, students also acquire a working knowledge of brand planning, campaign development, advertising and public relations copywriting, and web design. Through the study and practice of these broad, necessary skills in collaboration with experienced, credentialed teachers, the student is well prepared for the exciting profession of advertising design.
Career Opportunities:
Graduates of the Bachelor of Fine Arts program in Advertising Design may seek employment on the creative staffs of advertising agencies, design studios, public relations firms or corporate communication departments in such entry-level positions as graphic designer, junior art director, assistant account executive or copywriter.
